Investing in Your Mental Health: Session Fees, Insurance, and Payment

Therapy is one of the most valuable investments you can make in yourself. It’s not just about coping with today’s challenges — it’s about creating a foundation for long-term growth, healthier relationships, and greater emotional resilience. Many of my clients describe therapy as the turning point that helped them finally move forward after years of feeling stuck.

When you choose to work with me, you’re choosing a personalized, high-touch experience. My practice is intentionally designed to provide evidence-based therapy for professionals, couples, and families in California and Arizona who want more than surface-level solutions.

I want you to feel confident about this investment before beginning, so here’s a transparent look at session fees, insurance options, and payment policies.

Session Fees

Session Fees

Session fees range between $200–$400, depending on service type and location. My fees reflect the expertise, advanced training, and level of care I bring to each client.

  • Comprehensive Intake Sessions (85 minutes): These sessions are designed to set a strong foundation for our work. We’ll clarify your goals, explore your history, and identify the patterns or challenges that brought you to therapy. This extended session allows us to create a personalized plan from the very beginning.

  • Standard Individual Sessions (55 minutes): These are ongoing, focused sessions where we work on healing trauma, reducing anxiety, addressing perfectionism, or exploring life transitions. Each session is tailored to your unique needs and goals.

  • Couples Therapy Sessions (55–85 minutes): Couples sessions require a higher investment, reflecting the complexity and depth of the work. I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to help couples break negative cycles, improve communication, and rebuild connection.

  • Extended or Intensive Sessions: For clients seeking accelerated progress, longer sessions may be arranged. Intensives are especially helpful for couples, trauma processing, or professionals with limited availability.

Because I serve clients in both California (in-person and virtual) and Arizona (virtual only), my fees are thoughtfully structured to align with professional standards and the cost of practice in each state.

Why Therapy Is Worth the Investment

It’s natural to pause when considering the financial commitment of therapy. But unlike many expenses that fade, the investment you make in therapy continues to benefit you for years to come. Clients often share that therapy helped them:

Reduce anxiety and stress that once felt overwhelming.
Heal from past trauma and finally move forward.
Improve communication and intimacy in their marriage.
Gain clarity during career changes or life transitions.
Quiet the inner critic and feel more confident in daily life.

Think of therapy as future-proofing your mental health. The skills and insights you gain are tools you’ll carry for a lifetime.

Insurance & Reimbursement

I do not bill insurance directly. However, many of my clients successfully receive partial reimbursement through their out-of-network (OON) benefits. If you have a PPO plan, you may be able to get a percentage of your sessions covered.

To support reimbursement, I provide a monthly superbill — a detailed receipt you can submit to your insurance provider for potential reimbursement.

Questions to Ask Your Insurance Provider:

  • Does my health insurance plan include out-of-network mental health benefits?

  • What is my deductible, and how much of it has been met this year?

  • What percentage of each therapy session is reimbursed for out-of-network providers?

  • Are there any limits on the number of sessions per year?

  • Do I need a referral or prior authorization from my primary care physician?

Example:

A client with a PPO plan may pay the session fee upfront but then receive 50–70% reimbursement once their deductible is met. While every plan is different, many clients find this makes therapy more affordable long-term.

Accepted Forms of Payment

For your convenience, I accept:

  • All major credit cards

  • HSA (Health Savings Account) cards

  • FSA (Flexible Spending Account) cards

Payment is due at the time of service, and you’ll have access to a secure client portal for seamless billing and scheduling. Many clients appreciate the ease of automated payments so they can focus fully on the therapy itself.

Cancellation Policy

Life happens, and schedules change. If you need to cancel or reschedule your session, please do so at least 24 hours in advance. Late cancellations or no-shows may be subject to the full session fee.

This policy ensures fairness for both clients and therapist, as each appointment is reserved specifically for you.

Frequently Asked Questions About Fees & Payment

Do you offer sliding scale fees?

At this time, I do not offer sliding scale services. However, I’m happy to provide referrals to trusted community clinics or therapists who may have lower-cost options.

Do you take insurance directly?

No, I am an out-of-network provider. However, I provide superbills for clients seeking reimbursement from their insurance company.

Can therapy be paid for with HSA/FSA accounts?

Yes. Many clients use their HSA or FSA accounts to cover therapy, making it a tax-advantaged way to invest in your mental health.

Do you offer packages or intensives?

Yes. For couples or trauma work, extended sessions or therapy intensives can be arranged. These are billed at a higher rate but allow for accelerated progress.
